The Slowhand Band is a collaboration between some of Perth’s most highly regarded blues musicians. Their goal has been to create a comprehensive collection of Eric Clapton’s music over the first 40 years of his career (1964-2004), featuring songs from the Yardbirds, John Mayall’s Blues Breakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek & the Dominos and his solo career.

The band name comes from Clapton’s nickname ‘Slowhand’ which was allegedly given to him by the manager of the Yardbirds because he often broke a string on stage and the band would have to stop whilst he re-strung his guitar during which time the audience would begin a slow-handclap until the band recommenced.

Andrew McIlroy, guitarist, vocalist and Vice President of the Perth Blues Club is well known for his blues guitar work over more than 30 years working in this genre. For 20 of those years he has performed with Alan Dawson, one of the hardest working bassists in town and a massive fan of Jack Bruce (Cream). Andrew and Alan are joined by Frank Shinell who has been drumming since the dawn of time and Luke Savage on keyboards whose job it is to keep the other three honest.

The Slowhand Band will take you through a massive catalogue of hits, including the unplugged years, that will not disappoint the most ardent EC fan or blues fanatic.
