In a stately home in the British countryside, poets, tutors, academics and lovers roam the corridors some 200 years apart, each uncovering their own particular mystery. Tom Stoppard’s richest, most ravishing comedy is a dazzling, witty masterpiece of misunderstanding and quest for knowledge, resonating across centuries.
In April 1809, a bright young student and her tutor are inventing Chaos Theory a century too early – or are they simply falling in love?
All around them, the adults are preoccupied with secret desires, illicit passions and indiscreet affairs.
Two hundred years later, academic adversaries are piecing together puzzling clues, curiously recalling those events of 1809, in their quest for an increasingly elusive truth. Along the way, there are also professional rivalries, mistaken identities, hermits, duels and… horticulture.
Winner of the 1995 New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play and the 1994 Olivier Award, a smash hit since its debut at the National Theatre in 1993, Arcadia is frequently cited as one of the great plays of the 20th Century.
Featuring: Lucy Wiese, Patrick Downes, Geoffrey Leeder, Jason Dohle, Martyn Churcher, Anna Head, Cameron Leese, Grace Edwards, Lilian Valverde Caceres, Adam Poole, Ashvath Singh Kunadi, Joe Stevens.
