A special double‑bill evening featuring wonderful musicians delivering 2 shows – think of it as a great night of music delivered in 2 acts.

Each show has been designed with Fringe in mind – so will be about 50 – 60 mins long.

Act 1 — Amy: Under the Influence
A brand‑new show exploring the artists who shaped Amy Winehouse’s sound — Motown, soul, jazz, ska — but also including her most iconic hits.

Amy Winehouse’s sound was a fusion of mid‑century jazz vocalists, ’60s girl‑group drama, and modern soul/hip‑hop production, filtered through her own lived experience. Her influences weren’t just musical references—they were the foundation of her identity as an artist.

She drew from a remarkably rich palette of jazz greats, ’60s girl groups, and soul/pop stylists, shaping the retro‑modern sound that defined Frank and Back to Black.

Act 2 — Ska: From Kingston to Coventry
Our acclaimed Fringe show tracing ska’s journey from 1960s Jamaica to the UK Two‑Tone explosion.

We all love the hits of the Specials and Madness – but where did inspiration for this music come from? Red’s Tribe will take you on a musical journey from 1960s Jamaica to 1980s England.

Jamaican jazz musicians of the era created music with a distinctive relentless offbeat rhythm and as the “Windrush Generation” moved to the UK, so a melting pot of punk and rock musicians and West Indian immigrants created the “Two-Tone” record label and ska. Hear some of Perth’s finest musicians recreate both of those eras – reminisce about the ska you danced to and enjoy the sounds of the music that inspired it.

Red’s Tribe

The musicians performing the shows are known collectively as Red’s Tribe. The group formed in 2023 as a killer 8-piece band playing early Jamaican Ska, Rocksteady and Jazz. 2 fabulous singers, 3 amazing horn players and a rhythm section serving up authentic grooves.

They have turned their skills to “tributes with a twist” in these 2 shows. Serving up superb entertainment but also deepening audiences’ understanding of what lead to the creation of the songs they love so much.
