Irish Theatre Players are delighted to present George Bernard Shaw’s enduring classic Pygmalion.
When brilliant phonetics professor Henry Higgins makes a wager that he can transform a Cockney flower seller into a refined lady of society simply by changing the way she speaks, he sets in motion a journey that will challenge class boundaries, social expectations and his own understanding of human dignity.
At the heart of the story is Eliza Doolittle, a young woman determined to forge her own future. As she learns to navigate a world that judges people by their accents and appearances, she discovers a strength and independence that neither Higgins nor society expected.
Best known as the inspiration for My Fair Lady, Shaw’s masterpiece combines sparkling wit, memorable characters and sharp social commentary that remains as relevant today as when it was first written.
Under the direction of Stephen Lee, this fresh production focuses on the humanity, humour and complexity of Shaw’s unforgettable characters, bringing new life to one of the greatest plays in the English language.
